Sustainable Backwell

Sustainable Backwell is a group of residents who are taking action to deal with the issues of climate change and shrinking supplies of cheap energy.

Think energy

think-energySustainable Backwell has been successful with our funding bid from the government through the Local Energy Assessment Fund and have received just under £40k to spend on energy in Backwell.

We plan to look at four main areas:

  • Model Backwell’s energy usage
  • Raise energy awareness within the village
  • Showcase energy reduction measures such as insulation
  • Investigate renewable energy options within Backwell

Big Green Energy event

  • Make your owb solar panels
  • Pedal powered electricity generators
  • Lots of stalls
  • Energy advice, information and much more

Energy makeovers

We’re keen to support Backwell residents with energy in the home and are looking for 100 houses to provide a free energy survey by a home energy visitor with advice and tips. Please get in touch if you would like to volunteer your home….it’s like having the chance to give your house an energy makeover and could save you money.

Sustainable Backwell supports local business

It boosts local jobs and means we don’t travel so far, reducing our carbon footprint, congestion and pollution. A thriving local economy ensures choice and competitive prices and enhances the unique character of our village. Sustainable Backwell, with your help, is pulling together an online Backwell Directory. The Directory will form a comprehensive list of Backwell-based businesses and organisations. It’s sole purpose is to raise awareness of the diverse range of goods and services on offer without leaving the village.

Backwell Community Energy needs volunteers

Backwell Community Energy will be a Backwell based co-operative aiming to set up practical projects for sustainable energy generation, such as solar and wind energy, for the benefit of local people.

We are looking for volunteers to help set up the energy company and to develop its community-based projects. Volunteers with financial, business or planning expertise and experience of not-for-profit businesses would be especially welcome.
